Minutes away from the Freedom Run Festival
Posted on September 2, 2010 · Leave a CommentOn September 9, 2010, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers will be hosting their annual Freedom Run Festival. This event will take place at the Dallas City Hall Plaza, starting at 5:00pm ( for late registration) This festival is to honor those who fell on September 11, 2001, to remember them and to honor their memory. Also at the festival will be other members of the emergency services to hand out Identification Kits for Children. Having two children myself, I know the importance of these ID’s. The opening ceremony will begin at 6:30pm and at 6:45pm, the Freedom Run will start. So, get you’re running shoes out and come along to support a great event.Â
This year’s festival will benefit the Assist The Officer Foundation. Which is a fantastic organization that helps police officers and their families in times of hardship.Â

Say goodbye to summer with a day out at Six Flags

I know, it’s a sad thing, the end of summer is coming, the kids are getting ready to go back to school. And you’re wondering where did the time go? Why not spend a day at Six Flags?  Not only will you ride the rides, but you will be entertained with parades, concerts and you might even meet you’re favorite Super Her0. Six Flags is a fun day out, I did it over the summer with my family and we had a blast. There is always something going on around the park, that interests everyone. My favorite ride is the Batwing in Gotham City, it’s the most adventurous I get. So, head to the park this weekend and end you’re summer with a thrill ride or two.Â
Six Flags is about 45 minutes from Manchester State Thomas.
Bodies, The Exhibition at the West End Marketplace
Posted on August 27, 2010 · Leave a CommentÂ
This is a phenomenal exhibit. I have seen it twice and each time I was amazed by something that I hadn’t seen before. This is the first time that this exhibit has been in Texas and we are lucky here in Dallas to have it come to us. The exhibit was originally scheduled from November last year, until April 2010, but again, we are lucky that it was extended. This weekend you can see this exhibit at the West End Marketplace and if you don’t know anything about Bodies, here is a little history. Human bodies are preserved at the cellular level, so we can see how our bodies work, muscles, respiratory and digestive. These are just three of the stages in our bodies that are exhibited.  Each body is positioned in several poses, for example; one is playing basketball. My initial reaction to going to see this exhibit was not the one I walked away with. I was apprehensive at first, because I knew the bodies I was seeing, were real. I have to say, my apprehension was unfounded, this exhibit is fantastic and I would highly recommend you seeing it before it ends.Â

Jennifer Aniston in “The Switch”
Posted on August 19, 2010 · Leave a CommentA new movie out this Friday, is The Switch. Starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, is a story about a woman who decides to go it alone and be a single parent. This is not an unusual story, it happens in real life. But this movie has caused some in the press to question the message this film is sending. Bill O’Reilly in particular has taken offense at this movie and has challenged Aniston to defend her position on single parenting, which she has happily done. I for one will be seeing The Switch, simply because it’s a comedy.Â
The Anjelica Film Center is 2.7 miles away from Manchester State Thomas. Here are the times of The Switch.Â

New York Bestseller coming to big screen
Posted on August 12, 2010 · Leave a CommentThe brilliant, beautiful and talented Julia Roberts is back on the big screen this weekend in Elizabeth Gilberts, Eat, Pray, Love. The story of a woman who after a divorce decideds that it’s time for her to go a journey of self discovery. A journey that takes her to Italy, India and Bali. Along the way, she encounters people of every walk and culture, which puts her life into perspective. I have read the book, it’s funny, it’s a bit of a tear-jerker, but most of all, it’s human. Gilbert’s own experiences have made this book an international bestseller and it’s on that list for a reason.Â
Eat, Pray, Love is out this Friday, August 13, 2010.

Posted on August 9, 2010 · Leave a CommentFor over 100 years the State Fair of Texas has entertained millions of people. From September 24 to October 17, 2010, the Fair will be hosting lots to do. You will be entertained with live music at the Chevrolet Main Stage. There will be fireworks, parades and if you want to take a look at Fair Park from overhead, you can take a sky line ride that is breathtaking, especially at night. One of my favorites, The Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Band will also be performing. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing them, I highly recommend you catch them at the Fair.Â

Does red wine have antiaging properties?
Posted on August 6, 2010 · Leave a CommentThere’s more evidence than ever that red wine is good for us. We’ve heard that it can help us avoid heart disease. And now some researchers think it can even slow the aging process and help you keep a youthful appearance.
WebMD recently published an interview with Richard A. Baxter, MD. He’s author of Age Gets Better with Wine. Baxter says a glass of wine each day is all you need will help you fight off a host of age related diseases. And if that isn’t enough for you, he insists sipping red wine keeps your skin youthful and supple.
The key is a chemical called resveratrol. It’s a powerful antioxidant that keeps your body working properly at the cellular level. Red wine has a lot of this magic substance.
Baxter also thinks that wine’s connection to stress reduction has something to do with it’s anti-aging properties. “It is difficult to sort out how much of the benefits are from the chemical properties of wine vs. the types of behaviors that wine drinkers tend to have such as less stress in their lives,” he says.
Either way, this is good news. Of course, any alcoholic drink has a lot of calories, and needs to be enjoyed in moderation. But I will now know that as I wind down with a glass of Cabernet after work this evening, I’m doing something good for my body.
In the WebMD interview, Baxter has some advice for people who can’t drink alcohol. I won’t spoil the surprise, but it’s another substance we normally think of as a decadent indulgence.
The good news just keeps on coming.
Design your own wall
Posted on August 3, 2010 · Leave a CommentHave you ever thought that you’re walls are a little unimaginative? That they don’t have any pizzazz? There are only so many family pictures a person can hang on a wall. I was shopping in Target over the last weekend and came across vinyl wall art. They had a collection of different designs, for kid’s rooms, living rooms, to a ‘rebel’ sign. The prices weren’t too bad either. The designs ranged from $19.99 to $39.99. This is a cheap and easy way to spruce up any room in your apartment. They are also self-stick, so you can arrange them where you want them and if you don’t like it, you can just take them down and start over. I much prefer this idea, because I have done the wall borders before and had a terrible time getting them off, once I had changed my theme. I will give the vinyl wall art a try, I have a feeling I am going to like it better.
Your nearest Target is about 4 miles away, on N. Haskel Avenue.
